CANADIAN INDUSTRY ONLINE - APRIL 2013
The business has grown organi-
cally since the beginning, tells LaRose,
and she says that most of the growth
has come from “word of mouth and
repeat business.” The company is truly
a family owned business. LaRose’s
son Brock owns half of Higgins, and
is Managing Partner for the firm. The
company approaches business and key
decisions as a family—Brock has been
involved with the firm for more than
seven years and represents an impor-
tant part of the future of Higgins Ex-
ecutive Search.
In addition, recently Higgins
partnered up with Leaders & Co., an-
other very successful search firm in
Canada. The company is offering, since
the partnership, the Leaders Report: a
very thorough industry analysis and
research made available to clientele
who are interested in understanding
their sectors more deeply, to enhance
the recruiting process. “We have a lot
of similarities with Leaders & Co., one
of the most significant being that nei-
ther firm simply relies on a database to
do effective recruiting,” LaRose com-
ments. Both companies are committed
to growing a successful talent base,
and have done just that.
THE FUTURE
LaRose has built a future for Hig-
gins Executive Search that is rife with
potential. The company currently in-
tends to expand into other Canadian
markets, and will soon open an office
in one of Higgins’ key markets: Sas-
katchewan. “We have done work in
every province and territory except
for PEI,” she says. With offices in Win-
nipeg and Ottawa, business is on the
upswing.
The company works very close-
ly with educational institutions to
monitor growth trends in various
industries, and to make sure that stu-
dents are being trained with the skills
to match these patterns. “We have
worked with educational institutions
to develop the courses we will need to
in order to hire and replace the baby
boomers. These students coming into
the work force, they need to be devel-
oped to adapt to different industries,
and ones that are constantly evolv-
ing,” LaRose continues. “In February
of this year, we participated as 1 of
150
delegates from industry, academia
and government in Manitoba on the
Premier’s Skills Advisory Council,
helping to ensure we are meeting the
needs in Manitoba of future skills for
Canada’s workplace.”
Although the company didn’t
originally intend to be a cross-country
firm, that is definitely the goal now.
In 2012 we made the decision that we
wanted to expand, and innovation will
drive that expansion,” LaRose com-
ments. Higgins Executive Search spent
11
years growing organically and ad-
dressing the needs of industry, and
Canadian people. Now, the company
will rise to the next level—offering
exceptional services wherever clients
need them. “Everything we do is about
executive search, we live and breathe
what we do,” LaRose closes. For more
