tomer, we consider ourselves part of
your business,” Lledo says. The com-
pany has quality control mechanisms
in place that will carry the business
into the future in a sustainable way by
maintaining customer product quality.
There are big plans for Pember-
ton, Lledo comments. “We want to go
nation-wide, and get set up to be a dis-
tribution hub for certain products. Lots
of our customers don’t want to stock
certain products on their shelves any-
more because of warehouse space—so
we want to establish ourselves as a
cold storage warehousing logistics pro-
vider.”
Clearly important to the future
of Pemberton is the company’s fleet.
Pemberton looks at new technologies
on a continual basis, and evaluates if
the new technology is appropriate. The
company did some major buys in 2006-
2007
which helped enormously. The
company wanted to go greener, and so
Pemberton waited until the bugs were
worked out in the older “greener”
models, and at the time, were able to
purchase much more stable equip-
ment.
We have to worry about the en-
vironment—it’s part of our service.
We cut down our emissions by go-
ing 20% biodiesel, and every piece of
plastic and cardboard that comes into
our warehouse gets recycled,” Lledo
explains. The company has made great
strides to be environmentally friendly,
and this is also important to Lledo
because “our customers are also farm-
ers, and farmland is their future, so it
is ours too.” The company has a large
customer base in organic farming.
Ultimately, the company will do
whatever it takes for its customers “no
matter what the demand, we’ll try
to make it work for our customers,”
Lledo concludes. Pemberton will try to
accommodate everyone, in a business
that is growing and only gets more
competitive. For a partnership ap-
