mer company would come in droves,
but it took time to garner the reputa-
tion needed to bring on old custom-
ers. “Things started to build and new
customers came on board—it was later
that the original customers came to
us, once we had some experience as a
business behind us,” Levick says.
Over the years, Quad’s high ser-
vice level and custom, solutions-orient-
ed approach has grown the company’s
customer base to include over 80 per
cent of the North American mini-mills.
The company has expanded to include
services to aluminum, copper, titani-
um, and other special metals markets.
The company takes the approach of
using engineering solutions to assist
customers’ development of more pro-
ductive and efficient plants—doing so
while offering lower cost solutions that
could include modifying equipment,
rather than replacing it.
SOLUTIONS AND SERVICES
Quad Engineering now offers
engineering and equipment for shape
rolling, steelmaking, hot flat rolling
and cold rolling operations. The com-
pany has a 39,000 sq. ft. facility in To-
ronto, and is going strong today. “The
niche that we’ve held from the begin-
ning is really the custom level of ser-
vice that we offer,” Levick notes. “We
don’t really have a standard line of
equipment.”
This niche custom approach sets
the company apart from offshore enti-
ties that are large scale manufactur-
ers; those that have standard lines and
require long lead times. “There are
companies in Europe and Japan much
larger than us that offer a standardized
approach, but we do very well with
custom engineering,” Levick explains.
If a steel company wants to increase
its product or production range, we
can do that without the long wait
times for equipment coming from out-
side North America—we cater to tar-
geted special purpose requirements.”
The company’s manufacturing
is all done in North America, which
means they don’t take advantage of
low-cost manufacturing markets (i.e.
China) but can deliver more quickly to
