energy industry de-
manding more from strategic service
partners, Metalcare Group Inc. is in the
right place, at the right time.
Metalcare began as a small oil
and gas service company in Alberta,
founded by Muthu Palanisamy in
2005,
a driven entrepreneur that has
helped the big oil enterprises in Al-
berta thrive. Based in Fort McMurray,
Palanisamy has grown the Metalcare
business from a staff of 5 to a staff of
120
well-trained, committed individu-
als.
SERVICES
The company serves the oil and
gas, petroleum and petrochemical,
chemical, power generation, and pipe-
line industries while the vast majority
of the company’s business is serving
oilsands construction and operations.
The Metalcare Group offers a whole
range of diversified services to the en-
ergy industry including non-destruc-
tive testing, quality control services,
project construction management sup-
port personnel, geotechnical material
testing, Geomatics (& Surveying) and
Mining Equipment Maintenance Ser-
vices. In fact, the Metalcare Quality
Management System has been certified
to ISO 9001: 2008 Quality System pro-
viding QA/QC, Welding Inspection,
NDT, Geotechnical/Materials Testing,
Advanced NDT, Corrosion Monitoring
&
Management, In-service Inspections,
Construction Management Support,
Geomatics and Mining Equipment
Mainteance Services. Metalcare has a
remarkable roster of clients, including
Suncor, CNRL and Shell.
Metalcare’s primary concern is
keeping its clients’ projects built right
during the construction phase and
keeping moving parts moving dur-
ing operation - with utmost safety and
reliability in focus. “Our clients work
24-7,
so we have to work with them.
In the oil sands, plants simply can’t
afford to shut down. So we must be
ready to assist our clients when they
need us. If a client calls and we don’t
respond the first time, and then they
call a second time and we don’t re-
spond, we tend to lose their trust and
confidence ultimately. Therefore our
first and most important goal is to
make sure: if they are in a time of need,
we are there,” Palanisamy explains.
GROWTH
Metalcare has grown “by word of
mouth” up until now, says Palanisamy,
and currently has offices located in
Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada and
in Singapore. “At Metalcare, we quite
understand the right formula that it
takes to be successful in the service
sector. In any business, more so in the
service sector, I learned two key things
that could kill the business: ego and
bureaucracy. We make timely deci-
sions that reflect the best interests of
our client and our team members and,
we ensure no place for ego in our deci-
sions. All levels of our management
are readily accessible as a team to act
right away, without layers of bureau-
cracy that create delays and wider
communication gaps” says Palanisa-
my. Although the company does some
business internationally, the core of
their growth is at home. “We need to
serve our current client base to the best
