If you play at a younger age you
can play as an adult—there are no age
restrictions.”
Ultimate is all about accessibility.
Ultimate is an extremely accessible
sport—it’s cheaper than many other
field sports and anyone can play. A
regulation disc is about $12 and you
only need half of a soccer field for play.
The costs are really low which means
that it is accessible in many communi-
ties.”
Ultimate Frisbee is also a great
sport for new Canadians. “For new
Canadians all of those benefits I ex-
plained make ultimate an even play-
ing field when it comes to sports. You
don’t need to factor in special types of
equipment and costs; you just need ba-
sic physical literacy. We’ve been mak-
ing a push to make ultimate more ac-
cessible to youth and new Canadians,”
Saunders says.
ULTIMATE CANADA: PROMOTING
THE SPORT TO ALL
Ultimate Canada has recently
launched a national certification coach-
ing program. The organization is
also working on national competitive
championships at the high school lev-
el.
Overall, ultimate is all about the
spirit of the game. It’s about sports-
manship and personal responsibility,
and we are trying to make sure that all
Canadian children have the opportu-
nity to play ultimate no matter where
they live,” Saunders concludes.
Sports are a lot of fun, and ul-
timate is a lot of fun. Our goal is to
make sure Canadians of all ages know
that!”
