SUSTAINABILITY PANEL EVENT

the Toronto Board of Trade presented a breakfast panel about achieving a Sustainable and Responsible Global Sourcing Policy.
Executives from Asia Pulp & Paper, Atlantic Packaging and Canada’s National Brewers participated in a panel discussion about sustainable practices within their
respective industries at the Board’s podium.
The provocative discussion, moderated by Jeremy Runnalls, Managing Editor of Corporate Knights Magazine, touched on the topics of eco-labels and the roles of
government, civil society and social media in changing the way companies operate and consumers purchase goods. In attendance were Senator Victor Oh, Mr. Ju-
lang Pujianto, Consul-General of the Indonesian Consulate in Toronto, and Mrs. Meity Suhariah Ichwanu, Consul. Ian Lifshitz , Director, Sustainability at Asia Pulp &
Paper, the world’s second largest paper manufacturer, offered that “sustainability has to be a holistic approach,” and civil society and NGOs are a necessary force
in demanding that companies operate ethically and sustainably. Bob Hagan, SVP of Sales at Atlantic Packaging put forth that consumer education, starting with
educating kids in schools, will be key in making sustainable practices the norm.
