it, they can’t do their jobs so this event
is the culmination of lots of hard work
from the organizers, the volunteers,
the corporate sponsors and, of course,
the players who come out and raise the
funds. The celebrities play a role in the
event, too. My small part is because I
guess I have some profile and can help
bring some awareness to the event,
and my story with Wendy makes my
involvement more credible.
The event clearly creates memo-
ries for participants—what is some-
thing you think is particularly notable
about the event’s capacity to create
memories?
One of the things that I thought
was a very cool idea is that there is a
blank spot on the back of participants’
jerseys and players write in the name
of the person they’re playing for – their
Mom, their Dad, their wife, their sister,
an aunt, an uncle, their child – who-
ever it is. It brings it right down to that
personal level. After the event, some
will hang that jersey up in their house
or frame it. It’s a very special memory
from the event.

Through the past 30 years, our

derstanding the origins of cancer and

throughout Canada and the world, will
benefit from the scientific discoveries made
at The Campbell Family Institute. With
a large patient population, The Princess
Margaret has a leading reputation for
taking our discoveries from “bench to bed-
side” to benefit more patients.
