CANADIAN INDUSTRY ONLINE - APRIL 2012
flood forecasting information sys-
tems, hydroelectric networks, en-
vironmental assessments and con-
tinuous water quality monitoring.
“Our hydrology department is where
our niche expertise comes into play,”
explainsWinter. “We’re a systems in-
tegration company. The clients will
come to us, there’s something they
want to do but haven’t been able to.
Over the years, we’ve learned a lot
about what works and what doesn’t
work. We look at specifics around
the system site with the client, get
the information that they’re looking
for and build a solution around that.
“Before our systems go out the door,
there is a significant burn-in time.
We do rounds of tests to make sure
we are providing the best prod-
ucts possible. Nothing goes to the
client without complete testing.”
This is also true of the company’s
wind products. For instance, the
WindSentinel is the world’s only
wind resource assessment buoy
that uses a simultaneously puls-
ing laser wind sensor to accurate-
ly measure wind speed, wind di-
rection and turbulence offshore
at turbine hub-height and across
the blade span. Another product,
the WxSentinel Automated Weath-
er Observing System (AWOS), is a
land-based monitoring station for
the collection, processing and dis-
tribution of aviation weather data.
The AXYS service team also has
extensive experience in the train-
ing, deployment and maintenance
for operational buoy programs.
AXYS technicians are capable of
board-level diagnostics and re-
pair in the field, and individu-
al electronic component level di-
agnostics and repair in the lab.
The team also handles client train-
ing, covering all aspects of buoy
and systems assembly, func-
tion, installation, preventative
and corrective maintenance, re-
pair, testing, calibration, trans-
mission protocols, data storage,
data analysis, data presentation,
and real-time data distribution.
CLIENT-FOCUSED SOLUTIONS
A
XYS TECHNOLOGI ES CAN
provide turnkey installa-
tion programs for any of its prod-
ucts, anywhere in the world.
Working with clients and region-
al agents, the company will coor-
dinate the installation of service
logistics required to ensure the
installation or repair of any of its
systems.
The company’s service department
has extensive knowledge and expe-
rience in meteorological and physi-
cal oceanography. Typical oceano-
graphic and environmental consult-
ing studies include wave climate
studies, coastal erosion, marine
outfall studies and port studies.
The company’s future is bright,
with planned additions to its prod-
uct line, as well as improvements
to current products, software and
services, all to guarantee the con-
tinued satisfaction of existing and
future clients for many more years.
Winter adds: “Our intention over
the next couple of years is to con-
tinue learning about and sourcing
out niche markets that can benefit
from continuous automated mon-
itoring solutions with other insti-
tutions and organizations. Every-
body needs more data – the how,
where, and what is what we can
deliver best. That’s where we focus
our energy, and that’s how we gain
our client base and reputation.”
