Enterprise Toronto provides services and
programs tailored to meet the needs of
Toronto’s entrepreneurs and small business-
es, helping them to achieve their full
potential so that they grow to create jobs and
contribute to Toronto’s prosperity.
In operation since 1998, Enterprise Toronto
now serves more than 35,000 clients annually
at its Toronto City Hall, North York Civic
Centre and Scarborough Civic Centre
locations, at its many special events and
seminars, and by reaching out to clients
online, in the community and over the phone.
Enterprise Toronto staff help entrepre-
neurs make good start-up decisions as well
as develop their management capabilities as
their venture grows. Whether processing a
business registration, offering a marketing
seminar or referring a client to a prospective
financing sources, this unique City service
also functions as a gateway for small
businesses to access additional services from
the City of Toronto’s Economic Development
& Culture division.
Enterprise Toronto offers its business
services for free as a result of partnerships
with the Ontario Ministry of Economic
Development & Trade as well as with
corporate program sponsors like TD
Financial Group and event sponsors.
Together, these organizations work to serve
the city’s more than 300,000 micro business
owners.
Small businesses in Toronto are a driving
force for job creation and the City is
committed to proactively help existing
businesses grow and to help new firms start-
up as quickly and effectively as possible.
Toronto has one of the country’s highest
small business growth rate and the highest
level of self-employed persons as a
percentage of its total labour force. Between
2008 and 2009 the number of self-employed
in Toronto rose by 7.5%, while the national
average was 2.7%
