transport, and will deliver right to a
company’s cooler. “We won’t stock the
customer’s shelves, but we’ll put ev-
erything in their cold storage,” he ex-
plains.
That differentiates Pemberton a
great deal from other companies in
BC. When it comes to cold product
transport, a transporter must adhere
to many regulations around quality,
and the product “absolutely cannot be
compromised,” Lledo says. “We don’t
take any chances and we want our cus-
tomers to be happy.”
The company has customers all
over BC, including Squamish, Whis-
tler, Pemberton and Mount Currie,
down the Sunshine Coast including
Gibsons, Sechelt, Madeira Park and
Egmont, and the Okanagan area in-
cluding Kamloops, Vernon, Kelowna,
Penticton, Oliver, Osoyoos and sur-
rounding areas.
Pemberton also services areas in
Washington State, including LTL Ser-
vice to Seattle and surrounding areas
and Full Load Service to areas south of
Seattle. Alberta and Oregon customers
receive full load service from Pember-
ton. The company also ships to Saska-
toon.
THE DRIVERS
In a business like Pemberton’s,
the company couldn’t function with-
out its people: namely its drivers. Pem-
berton employees go through a rigor-
ous training program and are paired
with senior drivers for certain lengths
of time, especially considering the
rough terrain the company is some-
times working in.
For some drivers it’s too much,
driving in the mountains in the snow,
and so they aren’t necessarily prepared
for that,” Lledo says. “We need to train
new drivers with mountain and winter
experience. It’s up to the experienced
driver to allow the trainee to drive cer-
tain areas of the highway so they get a
feel for that type of driving.”
People are not a number here,
they have a face and a name and a
family to go home to,” Lledo notes.
The company considers safety its num-
ber one priority.
