CANADIAN INDUSTRY ONLINE - OCTOBER 2013
The high energy prices of 2007-2008
were a blip caused by speculation.
We first had major success outside
of Quebec in Europe because fuel is
scarcer and more expensive there. The
European market was looking for en-
ergy efficiency solutions before North
America was, and we had a politically
well-connected gas utility as a share-
holder in those years.”
MARKETING SOFAME POTENTIAL
Committed to the ultimate possi-
bilities for its technologies, Sofame has
been actively involved in changing the
way industry views heating and cool-
ing systems in North America, and has
pushed on. The company has received
recognition for its progress. Celebrat-
ing its 30th anniversary in 2014, So-
fame’s founder, Luc Mandeville, is still
managing engineering for the com-
pany, and Gocek is continuing to pro-
mote the importance of the technolo-
gies through thick and thin for the last
seven years (he joined Sofame as CEO
in 2007). Gocek has been instrumental
in marketing the Sofame technologies
in the United States, and has appeared
in media, most recently wit
to represent the company a
number of times.
Our recent public success is a
combination of random factors, af-
ter years and years of trying different
marketing approaches with marginal
